The tragic death of Lucy Harrison, a 23-year-old fashion buyer from Warrington, has captured public attention. This comes after a high-profile inquest at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in February 2026. The shooting occurred in January 2025. Recent testimonies in court revealed shocking details about the incident.

The Incident and Political Conflict

On January 10, 2025, Lucy Harrison went to see her father, Kris Harrison, at his home in Prosper, Texas. She was with her boyfriend, Sam Littler. The visit was meant to be a holiday reunion before the couple returned to the UK.

Mr. Littler reported that a “big argument” occurred on the morning of their departure. The dispute centered on Donald Trump and issues of gun ownership. During the debate, Lucy reportedly asked her father how he would feel if she were the victim of a sexual assault—a reference to allegations against Trump. Her father’s response, described as callous by the family, was that he had two other daughters and “it would not upset him that much.”

The Fatal Shooting

The court heard that roughly 30 minutes before the couple was due to leave for the airport, Kris Harrison took Lucy by the hand and led her into his ground-floor bedroom. Within 15 seconds, a gunshot was heard.

  • The Weapon: A Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
  • The Father’s Defense: Kris Harrison claimed the shooting was an accident. In a written statement, he said they were watching a news segment on gun crime. He offered to show her his firearm, and it “suddenly discharged” when he lifted it.
  • Alcohol Involvement: Kris Harrison, who has had issues with alcohol, relapsed that morning. He drank roughly 500ml of white wine. Police noted the smell of alcohol on his breath at the scene.

Legal Status and Inquest Findings

Despite the local investigation by Texas authorities into possible manslaughter or “criminally negligent homicide,” a Collin County grand jury declined to indict Kris Harrison in mid-2025, citing insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges in the US.

In the UK, the February 2026 inquest saw legal friction. Kris Harrison’s lawyer said the hearing felt “more like a criminal investigation than a fact-finding inquiry.” But Coroner Jacqueline Devonish would not step down. She stressed the importance of uncovering the facts behind the death of a British citizen abroad.
