Juan Soto Signs Record-Breaking 15-Year, $765 Million Deal with Mets
In a shock for the baseball world, Dominican superstar Juan Soto signed a historic 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets. According to multiple reports by media sources, this was a record-breaking deal in the history of professional sports, exceeding the previous level set by Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The deal between the New York Mets and Juan Soto has a $75 million signing bonus and an average annual salary of $51 million, with an opt-out clause after the fifth year, giving Soto the opportunity to reassess his situation if the Mets do not increase the average annual value by $4 million annually.

Juan Soto’s journey to this monumental deal has been nothing short of remarkable. He started his Major League Baseball career with the Washington Nationals in 2018, quickly becoming one of the game’s brightest young stars. In 2019, he was a key player for the Nationals in their World Series win over the Houston Astros. Still, in 2022, Soto spurned a 15-year, $440 million extension from the Nationals to look for his top dollar in free agency.
Juan Soto played for just one season with the San Diego Padres before signing last season with the New York Yankees. There, the young talented player continued dominating. For the Bronx Bombers, Soto hit 41 home runs and made 166 hits, further making him among the elites among the players in the major leagues.
Aggressively pursuing the superstar outfielder, the Mets were determined to secure Soto’s services, making use of the deep pockets of team owner Steve Cohen. Cohen has been the paragon of a big-spend owner since taking over, and this move with Soto is further testimony to the commitment shown towards building a championship-type team.
Soto’s signing will be huge for the Mets in the coming seasons. And though Soto has a penchant for power, patience and plate discipline will be more of his game. Power does sound better with a mix of Francisco Lindor in addition to his counterpart of Brandon Nimmo, along with the rest of their outfield, and the team in the National League.
