What began in 1946 as a tiny, 24-hour diner called the Dwarf Grill is now celebrating eight decades of industry-shifting dominance. Chick-fil-A is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2026 with the “Newstalgia” campaign. This year-long event mixes retro charm with new menu ideas.

The festivities kick off on January 5, 2026. They include a big nationwide sweepstakes, two new drinks on the menu, and plenty of visual nostalgia to take fans back to the brand’s Georgia roots.

The Hunt for the Golden Fan Cup

The highlight of the anniversary is the Golden Fan Cup Sweepstakes. It’s a fun, fast-food take on Willy Wonka’s golden ticket. Starting this week, Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide are selling four different Classic Cups for $3.99. These cups showcase rotating retro designs from the company’s archives. They include the original “Doodles” mascot.

However, mixed into the supply are 3,000 limited-edition Golden Fan Cups. Lucky customers who find one of these gold-tinted vessels will win free Chick-fil-A for a year.

How it works: Each Golden Fan Cup contains a winning card with a unique QR code. Winners get credit for 52 free entrées after scanning. That’s one per week for a year. They can choose from items like the Original Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, or an 8-count of nuggets.

New Permanent Menu Additions: Frosted Sodas and Floats

While the giveaway is the main event, Chick-fil-A is also expanding its “Frosted” lineup. In a nod to old-fashioned soda fountains, the chain has added Frosted Sodas and Floats to its permanent nationwide menu.

  • Frosted Sodas: These are hand-spun treats that blend Chick-fil-A’s signature Icedream® (vanilla dairy dessert) with a guest’s choice of fountain beverage, such as Dr Pepper, Coca-Cola, or Sprite. The result is a creamy, milkshake-adjacent drink with a fizzy kick.
  • Floats: For purists, the new Floats offer a more traditional experience, layering the Icedream at the bottom of the cup and pouring the soda over it to create that classic foam.

The Return of the “Cow” Culture

For many long-time fans, the most exciting news isn’t the food, but the return of beloved brand traditions. Chick-fil-A announced that Cow Appreciation Day is back for summer 2026. This fun event lets customers wear cow costumes for free food. It returns after a break of several years.

Additionally, the company is reviving the Cow Calendar, though with a 21st-century twist. The new version will include a digital part in the Chick-fil-A app. It will offer monthly rewards and surprises all year long. For collectors, the chain is also selling speciality plush cows ($9.99) and “Newstalgia” apparel on their official website.

A Strategic Milestone

The 80th anniversary arrives at a pivotal time for the Atlanta-based giant. Chick-fil-A is the third-largest restaurant chain in the U.S., following McDonald’s and Starbucks. However, recent reports show that traffic across the industry has varied. The “Newstalgia” campaign represents a shift toward “experience-based” marketing to maintain customer loyalty.

“This year is more than an anniversary—it’s a celebration of the memories, meals, and moments that have united people at Chick-fil-A for generations,” said Khalilah Cooper, vice president of brand strategy. “We’re inviting guests to join us in celebrating our heritage while looking ahead to the future.”

Whether you’re hunting for a golden cup or simply looking to try a Frosted Dr Pepper, the 80th-anniversary celebration is set to run through July 1, 2026.
