Florida, October 11, 2024 – The aftermath of Hurricane Milton is still being felt in Florida, where there has been significant damage and a growing death toll. When the Category 3 hurricane made landfall on Siesta Key in Sarasota County, it left behind a devastating storm surge, tremendous winds, multiple tornadoes, and 28-foot waves.

The Hurricane Milton has killed at least 14 people, four of whom died in a retirement complex in St. Lucie County as a result of tornadoes spawned by the storm. More than 3.3 million households and businesses in the state’s west-central region have lost electricity as a result of the widespread devastation.

Governor Ron DeSantis remarked that, while the worst-case scenario was avoided, the devastation was nonetheless tremendous. Rescue efforts continue, with Urban Search and Rescue Teams and the Florida National Guard working tirelessly to aid those affected. Hurricane Milton has also caused billions of dollars in damage, with insurance losses estimated to reach between $30 and $60 billion. As Florida begins its long rebuilding process, residents’ tenacity and strength are tested. The state is trying to restore power, remove debris, and assist individuals in need.
