BMW Recalls 1.5 Million Cars Due to Braking System Issue

Munich, Germany – BMW has announced a large recall of about 1.5 million cars around the world because of a possible problem with the brake system.

A number of cars made between June 2022 and August 2024 are being called back. Some types of the BMW X (but not the X3 and X4), the 5 and 7 Series, the Rolls-Royce Spectre, and the MINI Cooper and Countryman are among these.

The problem was found during an internal quality check, which is what led BMW to start a safety recall in February. However, more cases have been found since then, which makes the recall bigger.

Because the Continental AG integrated braking system isn’t working right, the brakes might have to use a backup level, which is still legal but requires the driver to use more force.

BMW has made monitoring software that can find problems with the brakes before they happen. If a possible problem is found, drivers will be told to go to a store to get a free system fix. There is a “safe mode” that will keep the brakes working because problems don’t happen often.

Unfortunately, the recall meant that BMW had to lower its sales and profit goals for the 2024 fiscal year. This will cost the company a lot of money. Because of the recall, the business is likely to lose a lot of money in the third quarter.
